Ambassador Munir Zahran, the Personal Representative of President Hosni Mubarak to the tenth summit of G-15, opened Friday the 60th meeting of the personal representatives of heads of state and governments of the group.
"The meetings aimed at following up the directives of the Group's Leaders and enhancing cooperation among the member states," Zahran added.
"Among such follow-up meetings was that of the Group's Ministers of trade in India in August 1999 to coordinate stances of the Group's members states in the third meeting of the WTO in September 1999," he said.
"The Group was able during Egypt's chairmanship to draw up a comprehensive strategy on employment with the aim of combating unemployment and the negative impact of globalization on socioeconomic conditions of developing states as well as realizing economic development," according to Zahran.
"The strategy was presented on behalf of the G-15 to the International Labor Organization (ILO), NAM, the Board of the UNCTAD and the UN Secretary-General to become as formal document in the UN," Zahran added.
"The Group was also able to coordinate its stance during the Tenth UNCTAD Conference and the G-77 Summit, held in Havana in April 2000," Zahran said.
"Egypt also hosted a seminar on the world financial crisis and means to regulate the global financial system, issuing a report on behalf of the G-21," Zahran added.
"Thus, it was a necessity to examine the significant challenges facing the developing countries and assess the experiences of the group after 10 years of its foundation," Zahran said.
