Annan's ME tour

Officials at the UN said on Friday evening that the UN secretary general will visit Syria on the course of a tour he will hold on several countries in the middle east. The tour will start as from today (Saturday ).

These officials said that Annan left New York on Friday, starting this tour which will also cover Iran, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Israeli, and possibly Morocco.

Worthy mentioning the UN chief had visited the ME region on March 17 through 26 of 1998 and his tour then covered Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Israel and the Palestinian self-rule territories.

To this effect it was announced in Amman today ( Saturday) that the secretary general of the UN Kofi Annan will arrive in Amman on Tuesday in a visit to Jordan which will last for two days in the framework of his tour on the region.

During his visit Annan will meet with the Jordanian King Abdullah and with several Jordanian officials.
