Arafat assures to Habash that he will not submit to U.S pressure
Palestine-Syria, Politics, 6/15/2000

Palestinian sources assured that the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat met during his presence in Syria with the Palestinian opposition in Damascus.

Khaled El-Fahoum, the head of the former Palestinian national council, said that he convened with head of the democratic front for liberating Palestine and with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat after paying the condolences in death of the late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad.

El-Fahoum said Arafat assured them that he will not submit to U.S pressures and threats concerning the issues in the final talks between Israelis and Palestinians, where these issues are the formation of a Palestinian country, Jerusalem as capital, the UN Security Council's resolutions and the refugees' right of return. He added "if Arafat was sincere in these words and endured the pressures then the Syrian gate will be widely reopened in front of him."
