Syria urged to release political prisoners

Arab groups for human rights urged Syria to release all political prisoners detained during the reign of the late Syrian president as a part of a more comprehensive call for more liberties.

This call came in an open speech in Cairo that was addressed to the ruling Baath party and presented to the Syrian ambassador in Cairo.

The Arab groups for human rights asked the Baath party to take decisions to release the political prisoners in the country.

It is worthy to mention that in mid of the nighties the Syrian authority released thousands of the Syrian prisoners yet the human rights groups believe that thousands of detainees are still kept in prisons.
