A source at the Syrian ministry of information told ArabicNews that more than 800 Arab and foreign journalists came to the country to cover events of the late president's funeral. Foreign journalists who covered this event, noted that there is a " larger margin of transparency " in Syria and more flexibility in the selection of people that can be talked to for interviews, the ability to have easy access into various parts of the country especially in Damascus and al-Qardaha. Diplomatic sources assured that Egypt would support Syria in the critical period following death of the late Syrian president Hafez El-Assad. The sources told ArabicNews that all the Arab leadership will back Bashar al-Assad in the coming period whether in the negotiations with Israel or against any attempts to shake stability and security. They added Syria's position on talks with Israel is clear which is the complete Israeli withdrawal from Golan and regaining all the Arab right assuring that the basis for peace are clear and its way is easy if Israel is sincere. The Moroccan supreme court on Wednesday quashed a sentence issued by the Rabat permanent military court against captain Mustapha Adib. Adib was sentenced last February by the military court to a five-year jail term for "violation of military orders" and "slander to the army." The supreme court also decided to return the case to the military court. Go

Syrian Arab citizens in the occupied Golan heights on Tuesday suspended their daily ordinary activities, while shop centers and schools closed their doors in expression of their deep sadness on the demise of President Hafez al-Assad. Go

A committee of experts in legal, medical, social and child psychiatry fields has been set up to draw up and follow up a national strategy to fight all forms of children exploitation. Council of rabbis which represents spiritual leadership of the rightist party Shas in Israel issued orders to the four ministers who represent it in the Israeli coalition government to withdraw from the ruling coalition. The police peacefully dispersed on Tuesday in Rabat a rally of jobless graduates, the authorities said. The graduates, including engineers and doctors, tried to stage the demonstration to claim their constitutional right to employment. The authorities said the demonstration was unauthorized. Go

The trial of two Yemeni citizens accused of forming an armed group for kidnapping foreigners started yesterday in Sanaa. Judicial sources said that a special court started regarding the case and that one of the suspects attended the court while the other did not. The prosecution accused the two men of kidnapping a U.S tourist and keeping him for a month and kidnapping two other tourists one of whom is British while the other is Dutch. Go
