Morocco to host international conference on climate changes
Regional, Environment, 6/14/2000
The Moroccan city of Marrakesh will play host next year to the ministerial conference of parties to the United Nations conventions on climate changes.
The Moroccan candidacy was "welcomed with satisfaction" by the conference of subsidiary bodies, stemming from the framework convention on climatic changes, currently held in the German city of Bonn.
Some 150 ministers will attend the conference, meant to be a forum of rich and poor countries on the implementation of the U.N. convention.
The Marrakesh conference will be the first held in an African country.
The decision to hold the meeting in Marrakesh will be submitted to the 13th session of subsidiary bodies, to be held next September in the French city of Lyon.
