King Mohammed launches projects in southern regions
Morocco, Economics, 6/14/2000
Carrying on his tour in most severely drought-stricken areas, King Mohammed VI launched on Monday several projects in the province of Tiznit (southern Morocco), benefiting mainly inhabitants of rural areas.
In the village of Sahb, 20 km south of Tiznit, the king heard explanations on a 466-project plan to alleviate drought effects for a total budget of $ 3.5 mln (35 million Dirhams). The projects consist of social facilities, electricity supply and treatment of liquid waste.
The king also inquired about the situation of agriculture in the region, mainly areas allotted to grain culture, orchard development and animal stock protection through the distribution of subsidized animal feed.
Another project in the region, supported by Belgium, for the irrigation of 2,150 hectares in the rural localities of the region, was completed at 55%.
The king also inquired about a $ 49 mln-rural electrification to benefit 39,000 families after completion in 2004.
Other projects visited by the king are water-supply facilities in the region, benefiting over 1,562 villages for an investment of $ 488 million.
