Jewish community in Syria held prayers of blessing for the late president

The Syrian Jewish community in Damascus on Monday held a special prayers of blessing for the late President Hafez al-Assad.

Khudr al-Kabareiti who chaired the prayers praised the traits and humanitarian stances of the late president, manifested by offering members of the community equal rights with all members of the Syrian community.

Al-Kabareiti added "we were shocked over the death of the late president," describing his death as a great loss for all, including the Jewish community.

He announced backing of the Jewish community to nominate Bashar al-Assad as President for Syria. He expressed his confidence that Bashar will be a great leader, like his father. And that Bashar is the best successor for a great predecessor.

Al-Kabareiti remarked that prayers for the soul of the deceased will continue for one week.
