Khartoum hopes to up lifting up the embargo despite of its fear from Washington
Sudan, Politics, 6/13/2000
Sudanese official sources expected that the UN Security Council would respond to Sudan's demand which was lately presented by foreign minister Mostafa Ossman Ismail to end the imposed sanctions on Sudan since 1996.
The sources said that despite of the complaints and fears that the U.S.A may use the right of appeal against this decision to end the sanctions, yet the complete international support for Sudan to end the sanctions will make it difficult for Washington to take such a step.
He added that Egypt supports lifting the sanctions on Sudan and that the Egyptian officials informed U.S Secretary of State Madeleine Albright of this during her last visit to Cairo and Egypt also informed it to U.S envoy to Sudan Harry Johnston before heading to Khartoum the day before yesterday.
