Kuwait: Demarcation of borders with Saudi Arabia is a matter of timing
Kuwait-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 6/13/2000

Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah on Monday said that border demarcation between his country and Saudi Arabia is a " political question."

Following a meeting for the Kuwaiti cabinet on Monday, Sheikh Sabah added " we are actually in need for a political solution and not a technical solution. We settle the political matters amicably."

Last week, Kuwait and al-Riyadh concluded a round of talks without reaching an agreement on the demarcation of sea borders. The two states seek to reach an agreement on demarcating the continental rift in which located is the al-Durra gas field. The two states also have same differences with Iran over the same field.

The Kuwaiti minister expressed his hope to settle the problem of border demarcation with Iran in the very near future." He added " Iran is also a neighbor and we will try to settle this matter with it."

However, differences over this gas field raised in may after Kuwait and Saudi Arabia protested against the acts of excavation carried out by Iran in al-Durra gas field.

Later, Iran stressed it had suspended these excavation and exploration works awaiting to reach a solution among the three sides.
