Lt. Gen. Bashar al-Assad confers with Sudanese president, Saudi crown prince

Lt. Gen. Bashar al-Assad on Monday in Damascus received Sudanese Omar al-Bashir and members of his accompanying delegation which included the minister of presidency affairs Lt. Gen. Bakri Hassan Saleh, the foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael and the Sudanese ambassador in Damascus.
President al-Bashir offered his personal condolences and those of the Sudanese people on the death of the later president. The Sudanese president also expressed his high appreciation for the struggle mounted by the President against the enemy.
On Monday evening Lt. Gen. Bashar also received the Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abd- Al-Aziz and members of the accompanying delegation.
The Saudi crown prince expressed great sorrows for the demise of the late president to the family of the deceased and to Syria.
He said that "relations between the two countries will be the same as established by the late president who contributed to developing them in the interests of the two sisterly countries and the interests of the Arabs and Muslims ."
Lt. Gen. Bashar also on Monday received a telephone call from the Russian President Vladimire Putin, during which Putin expressed heartfelt condolences on the death of President Hafez al-Assad. He expressed his regret that he could not take part of the funeral because he is engaged with earlier appointment. He expressed his deep estimation to the great deceased.
Putin also underlined the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. relations which have been always developed. He also expressed hope that bilateral contacts will continue.
Lt. Gen. Bashar thanked the Russian President for his feelings and underlined the importance of bilateral contacts and boosting of relations between the two countries. He commended the role played by Russia as a ME peace process cosponsor.
A similar telephone call was also made by the United Arab Emirates UAE minister of defense Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashed al-Maktoum, who is also Dubai's crown prince during which the prince's condolences were offered on President al-Assad's death.
