G-15 Summit boosts cooperation in trade, investment, technology
Egypt, Politics, 6/12/2000

Egypt's President Mubarak will inaugurate the tenth Summit of G-15 in Cairo on Monday 19th, June. Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said G-15 Summit would provide a chance for consultations in order to take a unified stance by the south countries to face the international economic challenges.

"The G-15 Summit aims at boosting cooperation among the Group's members in trade, investment and technology fields.

The summit will be preceded by the fifth meetings of the Group's economy and trade ministers," he added.

The Summiteers will discuss international economic developments in light of the World Trade Organizations (WTO) round of Seattle.

They will also tackle the outcome of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) held in Bangkok last February.

The originally G-15 now groups 17 developing countries from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America represented by Mexico.

Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Dr. Youssef Boutros Ghali Sunday inspected final arrangements for a trade exhibition to be staged on the fringe of the G-15 Summit.

The June 13-19 fair showcases products of the member countries. The items on display cover information technology, food processing, heavy industrialization, auto-making, light-scale industries, pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

"Participation in this exhibition will provide a unique opportunity for local and foreign exhibitors to meet heads of the G-15 countries," said Mohammed el-Saeed Saleh, Chairman of the General Authority for Exhibitions and International Fairs.
