Khaddam approved new decision to lower presidential candidate's age

Syrian vice- President Abdul Halim Khaddam on Sunday released law no 9 for the year 2000, approved by the Syrian parliament ( People's assembly) on June 10. It provided for amending article no 83 of the Syrian constitution which stipulates that one who nominates himself for the Syrian presidency to be a Syrian national, enjoying civil and political rights and have a minimum age of 34 years old.
