King Mohammed launches development projects in Souss-Massa-Dra

Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Friday launched several development projects in favor of the rural population of the region of Souss-Massa-Dra.

The projects include a 25-km road linking Agadir and the town of Taroudant. The project, which will cost over $ 139,000 will help better exploit the region's agricultural and tourism riches.

The king also gave the green light for the electrification of 274 douars (rural districts) at more than $ 18 million. The project, which will be completed in 16 months, will benefit more than 60,000 inhabitants.

King Mohammed VI also launched another project to supply 1,357 douars with drinking water at $ 26 million. The project will cover 533,000 inhabitants.

He also launched a project for the exploitation of solar energy for electrification purposes. The project will benefit 7,000 lodgings in 60 rural communes.

The king had visited the province of Essaouira, where he launched a housing project.

In the Town of Taroudant, the king visited the agricultural cooperative COPAG, one of the major production units in Morocco.

Set up in 1987, COPAG employs 1,300 people and produces milk, fodder and citrus fruits.

In the same town, King Mohammed VI visited the headquarters of the Islamic welfare association of the Ait Leza commune. He was briefed on the rehabilitation works of welfare institutions in the province, which host 1,176 persons.

The king also visited projects for the promotion of rural women's condition and presided over the signing of an accord between the Mohammed VI Solidarity foundation and the Tamount association for development and cooperation. The accord seeks to promote rural women's situation.
