Qatar-Bahrain, Politics, 6/10/2000

The Qatari daily al-Sharq Friday criticized Bahrain for declaring intention to strengthen its forces in Hawar islands which is under debate by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague.

The paper added that Bahrain told the court its forces is in alert over the Hawar island. A matter which does not serve the session and besides, is considered an attempt by the side of al-Manama to take the case outside the current international judiciary route.

Earlier Bahrain's representative before the International Court of Justice Jawad Salim al-Areed said that Bahrain was ready for all possibilities concerning this islands which are situated near the Qatari coasts for fears that Doha will control them.

Worthy mentioning that the representatives of Qatar and Bahrain started on May 29 in the Hague five weeks of verbal arbitration sessions, which will end on June 29 before the international court of justice will issue its decisions over the border disputes during a period of 4 to 6 months.

Worthy mentioning Hawar islands which are controlled by al-Manama situated just one kilometer from Qatar and some 50 Km from Bahrain.
