Arab tourism ministers meet in Algiers
Regional, Economics, 6/8/2000

The Arab tourism ministers' council opened in ALgiers wednesday its 3rd session to examine a set of recommendations related to Arab investments in tourism, vocational training and tourism facilities.

Participants highlighted the importance of the sector in economic and social development as well as Arab countries' tourism potentials.

They also deplored that the share of arab countries in international tourism remains very low, as only an annual 24 million tourists chose arab countries for their holidays. They stressed the need to intensify efforts to promote tourism which is a job-generating source.

The meeting equally stressed the importance of private investment as it contributes to the development of tourism and insisted on providing the necessary facilities for Arab and foreign investors. Arab countries should also invest in human resources, participants said.
