Al-Shara meets Albright
Syria-USA, Politics, 6/7/2000
Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara met U.S Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Following the meeting, al-Shara said that the door to peace is still open. Albright's meeting with al-Shara is considered the first meeting on such a high level between the two countries since the inconclusive Syrian - U.S summit in Geneva last March regarding the semi frozen Syrian - Israeli track.
This meeting comes on the heel of Albright's declaration a U.S - Palestinian meeting in the coming week to prepare the way for reaching a frame work on a permanent solution between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and on the heel of the Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon.
The meeting comes before the Security Council anticipated declaration on whether the Israeli withdrawal south Lebanon has took place completely and according to resolution N 425 or not.
