Lebanon has reservations on Larsen's report over border issue with Israel
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 6/7/2000

As the Lebanese side chaired by President Emile Lahoud, and the presence of Premier al-Hoss discussed with the UN envoy Terry Larsen suspended issues over fixing the southern borders of Lebanon, the Lebanese side was persistent on its position in committing to its borders set in 1923, including Shebaa farms.

Lebanon also stressed rejection to any Israeli violation, also including the three border positions in Ramish, al-Ghajer village and Miskaf Aam settlement which all were a point of disputes between the two sides.

The UN delegate called for honoring UN Security Council resolutions concerning the withdrawal points from South Lebanon, while Lebanon expressed its reservations over these points.

This was, however, expressed after the UN team completed its mission in making sure of the withdrawal and fixing the international border line.

Larsen said he will submit a report to the UN secretary General Kofi Annan. This announcement by Larsen provoked wonder from the Lebanese official circles which expressed reservation over Larsen's position who mixes between the Israeli withdrawal line and the International borders and considered this announcement as a sort of pressure on Lebanon and warned that this would escalate the situation in the field.

The Lebanese authority stressed that Lebanon is committed to its unwavering position towards the question of the borders and that it considers the Israeli withdrawal as incomplete, noting that there are border points under disputes and that Lebanon will also ask the UN to pressure Israel to withdraw to the international borders.

Meantime, the reconnaissance team at UNIFIL, working in south Lebanon, yesterday held a last tour on the border to make sure of the maps and the Israeli withdrawal lines and the survey operation covered the border line from al-Naqoura until the western Bekaa.

The Lebanese national news agency said another UN teams, simultaneously inspected the Lebanese international borders with Israel at al-Wazzani- al-Majedeyah axis.

The Lebanese news agency quoted one member of the team Lt. Greeg that the maps he owns prove that al-Abbaseyah town is a Lebanese.
