Moroccan- Malian joint commission meets in Rabat

The third session of Moroccan- Malian joint commission opened in Rabat Monday under the co-chairmanship of Moroccan foreign affairs minister Mohamed Benaissa and Malian peer Modibo Sidibe.
Benaissa told the opening session the meeting is an opportunity to identify new areas for bilateral cooperation taking into consideration the African specificity of the two countries.
He stressed the need to revise the legal framework of bilateral cooperation to adapt it to the to new requirements, deeming as necessary the conclusion of agreements on protection of investments.
The Moroccan official insisted that bilateral cooperation should cover other sectors mainly agriculture, water, handicraft and tourism, adding that the visit to be paid by Malian President Alpha Oumar, to Morocco will give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
The Malian official, on his part, hoped that Morocco would increase its actions in Mali especially in the fields of training of managerial staff, agricultural development, dam construction, mining, health and culture.
He also hailed the King's initiative announced at the Africa-Europe summit to cancel the debts of least developed African countries owed to Morocco.
Modibo Sidibi had talks Monday with Moroccan speaker of the chamber of advisers (upper house), Mohamed Jalal Essaid on means of upgrading bilateral cooperation
Talks also covered the Sahara issue and Morocco's commitment to the UN settlement plan and to the participation of all Sahrawis in the UN projected referendum.
