Hawatmeh says results of Oslo agreements are insignificant
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 6/6/2000
Secretary general of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (FDLP), Naief Hawatmeh, currently on a visit to Morocco, said results reaped by Palestine from the Israeli Oslo agreements are insignificant.
Hawatmeh who was meeting on Sunday in Laayoun (southern Morocco) local executives of the former opposition Koutla parties and NGOs delegates said seven years following the signing of the agreements, the harvest is too poor compared to the series of Arab and Palestinian regressions and concessions. He added that issues under negotiations are not meeting the minimum Palestinian rights. Hawatmeh urged for carrying on the struggle to heal inter-Palestinian relations by restoring national entente within the Palestine Liberation Organization, on the basis of a common program drawing its strength from international resolutions.
He also deemed it necessary that all Palestinian trends be grouped within a joint front on the basis of UN resolutions which served as a reference for other resolutions adopted by Arab summits since the Rabat summit of 1974 until the one held in Cairo in 1996.
After the Palestinian leader surveyed the evolution of the Palestinian issue and sacrifices made by the Palestinian people to establish their state and recover independence, Moroccan interlocutors renewed the Moroccan people's support to the Palestinian legitimate struggle for statehood. Participants also expresses worries at the roadblocks on the way of the Middle East peace process, calling on Palestinians to unify their ranks.
Hawatmeh had said his visit to Laayoun was "a token for the Palestinian support to Morocco's territorial integrity."
