Moroccan foreign minister to visit Mauritania on Senegal dispute
Morocco-Mauritania, Politics, 6/6/2000
Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, is expected this Tuesday in Mauritania for a brief visit.
According to diplomatic sources in Rabat, Benaissa will convey Mauritanian President Mouaouiya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya a message from King Mohammed VI.
On Sunday, the king had had telephone calls with Presidents Mouaouiya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya and Senegal's Abdoulaye Wade on developments at Mauritania and Senegal borders and offered mediation should the need arise.
The king invited the two brotherly countries to favor dialog and cooperation for the development of their border-areas within the frame of the organization for the promotion of the Senegal river.
