European pivotal role in peace process

"President Hosni Mubarak receives today German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer," said Egypt's Foreign Minister Amr Moussa.

Moussa said their talks took up the Middle East peace process, Barcelona Process, the outcome of Lisbon's ministerial meeting and the projected summit of the countries of Barcelona Process. Talks also tackled bilateral relations and a number of African and Mediterranean issue of mutual interest, he added.

Moussa recalled receiving an invitation from Fischer to visit Germany to resume their talks as part of continued political consultations between the two countries.

Joschka Fischer, on his part, expressed happiness for visiting Egypt, adding that talks with Moussa tackled a number of important issues, on top of which were the Barcelona Process, Mediterranean cooperation and bilateral ties.

Moussa said talks with Fischer also took up means of increasing German investments in Egypt and ways to promote trade exchange.

"The German stance regarding investment openings in Egypt is based on the projected Egyptian-EU partnership agreement," Moussa said.

He voiced hope the agreement would be signed as soon as possible to help herald new prospects for trade exchange between the two sides as well as upgrading Egyptian industries.

In reply to a question on Germany's assessment of New York's conference on reviewing nuclear ban, Fischer said that Germany is not a nuclear state. He asserted, however, that Germany is concerned with grinding to a halt the nuclear race, especially in Asia.

oschka Fischer reiterated his country's keenness on reaching a common understanding on the issue.
