Continuing Ethiopian - Eritrean negotiations in Algeria
Ethiopia-Eritrea, Politics, 6/5/2000
The negotiations hosted by Algeria concerning the border dispute between Ethiopian and Eritrea are continuing despite continued fighting between the two side.
Ethiopia is trying to deal with the numbers of the Eritrean war prisoners who were captured in this war placing them in tents in the mountains areas. The Eritrean war prisoners say they resent the struggle and do not understand the reasons for the fight between the two former allies as one of the prisoners representing this view stated that the two people are intimate with one civilization and do not want the fight.
The captives are receiving food and medication from Ethiopia - though there is a shortage of medication.
The Ethiopian soldiers have radios and are waiting for the news of a halt to the fighting and for releasing the prisoners so that they can return home.
