Palestinian opposition will not attack Israel from South Lebanon
Lebanon-Palestine, Politics, 6/5/2000

The Monte Carlo radio correspondent in Damascus said that Palestinian opposition stressed to her that they will not carry out any military operation from South Lebanon, so as to avoid an Israeli escalation there.

The assistant secretary general of the people's front- general command said " I do not think there is a possibility for a military operation from South Lebanon under these conditions, especially as no one will give Israel the pretext to destroy the infrastructure in Lebanon."

On the other hand, the chairman of the Palestinian follow up committee Khaled al-Fahoum said in a statement to the correspondent that the opposition will not carry out any armed act outside the land of Palestine, especially from South Lebanon, noting that the Palestinian opposition had interfered enough in the internal affairs of Lebanon.

A matter which adversely reflected on the Palestinian people living in Lebanon.

Al-Fahoum also remarked the absence of the Syrian consent on the military act in South Lebanon. He added that Syria seeks the interest of the Palestinians, noting that " it is preferable that those Palestinians will not interfere in the affairs of any Arab country especially Lebanon." He added we will refuse any temptation to carry out an operation against Lebanon from the Lebanese borders.

Or its part, the democratic front for the liberation of Palestine said the choice of military operation in south Lebanon is linked to conditions.

Meantime, the spokesman for the front Ali Badwan said that current conditions would not permit military operation as used to be in past times.

He explained, " however, the Palestinian groups, including the democratic front has not drop this option (of attacking Israel) and that the PLO forces put all its potentials and efforts in the service of the Lebanese national forces in order to liberate areas still under occupation in South Lebanon.
