Yemen receives more refugees from the African horn

The Yemeni news agency Sabaa said on late Saturday night that more than 600 refugees from the African horn arrived in Yemen's port since the escalation of fighting between Ethiopia and Eritrea on the first of May.

The agency added that 380 Eritreans and 110 Ethiopian and 113 from Somalia have so far reached in boats to Yemeni ports like al-Makha port.

The agency added that the Ethiopian and Eritrean refugees were temporarily taken to schools in al-Makha and were provided with food, waters, medicines and milk while the Somali refugees were taken into refugees camps at Abyan province.

Earlier in the day, a Yemeni official said that thousands of Somali refugees are now staying in the province since years.

During the past year, Yemen received thousands of war refugees from the countries of the African horn, especially from Somalia.

The UN organization for relieving refugees said that number of refugees officially registered from the said countries reached 75,000, while Yemeni official said their number is 500,000, and they include illegal emigrants who are not registered officially by the Yemeni authorities.
