Syrian defense minister confers with Lebanese president, Hizbullah chairman

At the directive of Syrian President Hafez al-Assad, the Syrian defense minister Lt. Gen. Mustafa Tlass, accompanied by Lt. Gen Ibrahim Safi and Lt. Gen. Ghazi Kanaan on Thursday visited the Lebanese President Emile Lahoud.
On the Lebanese side the meeting was attended by the Lebanese prime minister Salim al-Hoss.
Tlass conveyed to President Lahoud, greetings of President Hafez al-Assad and his heartfelt congratulations on " the great victory attained by the brotherly people of Lebanon against the Israeli occupation forces and their Lahd hireling militias." Tlass praised the sacrifices of the Lebanese national resistance who had the first and direct role in defeating the occupation and liberating the lands.
The Lebanese president expressed reply thanks to President al-Assad noting that " the Lebanese victory would not be attainable without the great care and backing provided by Syria, under the leadership of President Hafez al-Assad to Lebanon.
The Lebanese presidents stressed that " joys and happiness of the victory will not be complete without liberating the occupied Syrian Golan from the Israeli occupation." He stressed that just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East will be only complete in the restoration of the whole lands, the prisoners and guaranteeing the rights of the people of the region especially the right of the Palestinian people to return back to their homeland.
Then Tlass visited the speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri who is also the chairman of the Amal movement and conveyed to him congratulations on the liberation of South Lebanon.
The two sides exchanged view points on latest developments on the Lebanese arena.
Berri stressed that UN resolution 425 will not be complete if a total Israeli withdrawal will not be maintained from Shebaa farms, stressing Lebanon's continued efforts to restore back these farms by all means.
Tlass and his companions also visited the secretary general of the Hizbullah party. The meeting was attended by leading figures representing the Hizbullah party and the Lebanese resistance.
Tlass also congratulated Nasrullah on this great victory of liberating South Lebanon and commended the heroism of the Lebanese resistance and their sublime message in defending the dignity and honor of the Arab nation.
Tlass also visited in his tour the commander of the Lebanese army lt.
Gen. Michael Suleiman and conveyed President al-Assad greetings and the Syrian armed forces over the liberation of South Lebanon and the Western Bekaa from the Israeli occupation. He stressed Syria's continued backing to Lebanon and its armies.
In all these meetings, the Lebanese leaders praised the key role played by President Hafez al-Assad in backing the Lebanese national resistance and defending its in Arab and international arenas. A backing which helped Lebanon attaining its aims in liberating the lands and forcing Israel to withdraw from the South and the Western Bekaa.
