Kuwaiti - Saudi - Iranian negotiations for solving borders problems
Kuwait-Saudi, Economics, 5/31/2000

Kuwaiti foreign minister Sheikh Sabah El-Ahmed El-Sabah said "official talks will be held with Saudi Arabia and Iran during the coming month concerning the Dorra oil field and (other contested areas) in the Arab gulf." He did not specify the date of the talks or whether they will be bilateral or three-way.

It is worthy to mention that Iran said it stopped drilling in the contested area following protests presented by Saudi Arabia.

Gulf sources asserted that "Saudi Arabia persuaded Kuwait and Iran to get into discussions concerning the accusations addressed to Iran of stealing the oil of Dorra field" and that "Saudi Arabia emphasized on the necessity of the peaceful and friendly solution to these cases."

The sources said that Saudi Arabia wants goods relations with Iran and to prevent any disputes that might terminate the good relations with Iran.
