Court trial begins for border and islands sovereignty disputes between Qatar and Bahrain; Background

Hearings on the border and islands sovereignty disputes between Qatar and Bahrain opened on Monday at the principal judicial organ of the United Nations - the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the Hague.
The hearings, which will last five weeks, will be dedicated to the merits of the dispute between the Parties. They will constitute the final phase of the proceedings in this case, which will have been the longest in the Court's history, the court said.
