Modern, Ancient Egypt displayed in Expo2000
Egypt, Economics, 5/29/2000
Chairman of the General Organization for International Fairs and Exhibitions Mohamed Al Said Saleh said that Egypt's pavilion in Expo 2000, the first World Exposition in Germany that will take place from 1st June to 31st October 2000 in Hannover, is to display Modern Egypt and its ancient civilization.
"A key element of the exposition is the presentation of projects on the reclamation of the desert, renewable energies and organic farming," said Saleh. He added that the key theme under which EXPO 2000 stands is "Humankind - Nature - Technology: A New World Arising" and its contents are oriented towards the guiding principles of the Agenda 21.
"Twelve kinds of projects, including national projects of Toshka, Al-Salam Canal, Development of Sinai, and Media Production City will also be on display," said Chairman of the General Organization for International Fairs and Exhibitions. As the River Nile is the origin of one of the world's time-honored civilizations, 'Egypt, Gift of the Nile' would be the main theme of the pavilion. A 13-minute-documentary on Egypt will be on display.
Visitors are guided from the past into the future and through the various types of countryside which influence life on the Nile. Coast, riverbank, the rich farmland in the Nile Valley and the desert can be discovered during a spectacular journey. Music, scents and light installations accompany visitors on their tour through the long history.
World Expositions have a tradition extending 150 years into the past - all the way back to the 1851 first World Exposition in London.
