Child parliament session winds up
Morocco, Culture, 5/29/2000

The second session of child parliament closed works on Saturday under the chairmanship of Princess Lalla Meryem, sister of King Mohammed VI.

The closing session was marked by the awarding of Mohammed VI prize for children rights to the Spanish ombudsman, Fernando Alvares Dimilanda and reading out of a message by young parliamentarians to the international foot-ball union in support to Morocco's bid to host world cup 2006.

The session, held this May 23-27, discussed the draft charter of the child's parliament and other questions related to child and mother medical care, ill-treated and homeless children, promotion of solidarity culture among children and the contributions they can make to Morocco's bid to host 2006 world cup.

The 357-member- parliament is a forum of meetings and exchanges and an opportunity for children to express their opinion and propose solutions.

In parallel to the child parliament, the national congress on child rights congress held this May 25-26 its 7th session.

The two events coincided with the celebration of the national children day (May 25) which was marked by the holding of some 1,800 activities of awareness-promotion, charity actions and sport events in different parts of Morocco besides meetings and debates on children-related issues.
