Turning Egyptian electricity organization to a joint - stock company
Egypt, Economics, 5/29/2000

After hot discussions, the industry and energy committee in the Egyptian parliament agreed on a draft resolution of turn Egypt' electricity organization into an Egyptian joint - stock company.

Some deputies in the parliament showed reservation about the draft fearing of its effect on the electricity prices on citizens.

Egyptian electricity minister Ali El-Seedi said that "the new draft clearly states the general ownership of the country to this company and that the government wants to run its assets in a better way through turning the organization to a company," clarifying that the cabinet is one that decides electricity prices, and that the government always pays attention to the social dimension in pricing electricity.
