Tunis bans former head of human rights association from travel

The Tunisian authorities banned yesterday the former head of Tunisian human rights association Monsef Marzouki from heading to France according to what was said by two organizations for defending the human rights.

A statement issued by the committee for the respect of liberties respect and human rights in Tunis said Monsef Marzouki who was suppose to head to France last Thursday informed us that he was banned from leaving the Tunisian lands.

The Arab committee for human rights - headed by Marzouki - denounced this action.

Marzouki is also the spokesman of the national council for liberties in Tunis who was supposed to head the day before yesterday to Paris and then to London with an invitation from many Arab and international non-governmental organizations to discuss the human rights in Tunis.

Merzouki received his passport last week after being banned for 4 years from travel.
