Israel and al-Shara's statements in Lisbon

The Israeli radio on Friday said that the Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara said that Israel had actually carried out the UN Security Council resolution 425, fully, despite the fact it has not implemented it precisely nor in a good spirit.

Al-Shara expressed his hope that it will be able to benefit from the withdrawal towards full implementation of UN security council resolutions 242 and 338 for changing the map in the Middle East into a map of peace, stressing Syria's desire to establishing peace as a strategic option.

The Israeli radio for political affairs said that al-Shara's statements were made in the context of a speech he delivered before the Euro- Mediterranean conference currently held in Lisbon For his part, the Israeli deputy foreign minister Nawaf Masalha commented on al-Shara's statements by welcoming Syria's persistence on Israel's implementation of UN resolution 425.

Masalha explained that Israel had been wishing all over the past year to reach a comprehensive peace that avails it withdrawal from South regularly in implementation of UN security council resolution and when these hopes were not implemented, Israel withdrew unilaterally from South Lebanon.
