Tunisia to have its first municipal elections
Tunisia, Politics, 5/26/2000
Tunisian voters are heading on Sunday morning to elect their representatives in the local and municipal councils.
These elections are taking place for the first time after changes to Tunisian elections laws which specify that a minimum of 20% of the seats should be designated for independents and factional opposition and 20% for women and youths.
The progressive socialist assembly party is boycotting these elections due to not having what they consider elements of a neutral and clean process in addition to objection against the latest amendments for the electoral laws in Tunis.
