Moroccan senators call on europe to help build mediterranean space

The Moroccan chamber of advisors (upper house of the Moroccan parliament) invited participants to the 2nd congress of speakers of Euro-Mediterranean parliaments to urge north Mediterranean countries to allocate the surplus of their trade with south Mediterranean countries to the building of a Mediterranean space.
In a work document which contains proposals to be included in the final recommendations of the 2nd congress of speakers of Euro-Mediterranean parliaments, held May 23-24 in Alexandria, the Moroccan upper house also called for addressing the indebtedness of non-EU member Mediterranean countries and for the preservation of the identity and culture of south-Mediterraneans settled in Europe.
On the sidelines of the congress, speaker of the chamber of advisors, Mohamed Jalal Essaid had talks with Egyptian and Palestinian peers and with speaker of the international parliamentarian union on ways to consolidate dialogue and cooperation between the legislative institutions.
The congress, held in implementation of Barcelona declaration, examined ways of enhancing cooperation between Euro-Mediterranean countries and other questions related to peace and security in the region mainly the fight against terrorism, organized crime and illegal immigration.
The Moroccan delegation also comprises speaker of the Moroccan chamber of representatives (lower house).
