Euro - Mediterranean conference demands removal of mass destructive weapons

The Second Conference of Euro- Mediterranean Parliament Speakers called on the participants to work hard in order to settle the current conflicts in the region in cooperation with the international sides.

The final Draft Declaration of the conference, related to Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, stressed the importance of abidance by Madrid's terms of reference as a basis for the Middle East peace process, Land-for-Peace Principle, UNSC relevant resolutions and all the other agreements which were signed between the parties concerned in order to guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people especially the right to self-determination.

The Draft called on participants to work to free the Middle East and the Mediterranean regions from weapons of mass-destruction.

All sides, without exception, should put their nuclear facilities under supervision of the International Agency for Atomic Energy, added the Draft.

The Draft stressed the necessity for respecting the integrity of the lands and settling the current conflicts in the region by peaceful means.

The Draft called for providing opportunities of equality and justice and backing the south Mediterranean countries in their implementation of economic reform programs to upgrade their economies and to pose as an equal partner in the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation process.

The final Draft stressed the importance of working for boosting democracy, developing understanding and transparency, promoting dialogue between the member states and laying down executive mechanisms within the framework of participation to actuate cultural dialogue.

The final Draft Declaration welcomed the Egyptian project of revitalizing Alexandria library, expressing hope that the library would contribute to promoting cultural dialogue among Euro-Mediterranean countries.

The Draft stressed the importance of preparing training programs between youths to create cadres capable of furthering Euro -Mediterranean cooperation along with holding periodical conferences and forums between youths.

The Draft called for standardizing measures in the treatment of emigration issues and developing communications between Euro-Mediterranean countries in various domains.

The success of the Barcelona Formula hinges on the political will of its sides, making every side shoulder their responsibility in this respect and ensuring the effectiveness of parliaments` role in the societies, added the draft.
