Iraq denies contacts with Israel
Iraq, Politics, 5/24/2000
Iraq on Tuesday deliberately denied information published by a British daily that talked about the existence of contacts with Israel to normalize relations with it.
The director general of the Iraqi news agency Ode al-Taei said that what has been published by the British daily " the Observer" is mere " cheap lies aiming at distorting Iraq's unwavering position towards the cause of Palestine.
However, the said British paper said that representatives for the Iraqi government had repeatedly met with Israeli officials during the 15 past months and that secret talks are being made since several months between Iraq and the Israeli government. The Observer also said that these secret talks between the two sides talked about moving to settle 300,000 Palestinians from South Lebanon to Iraq, in case Israel would contribute to putting an end to Iraq's diplomatic isolation.
