Morocco, Canada to cooperate in electronic post
Morocco-Canada, Economics, 5/22/2000
Morocco and Canada may conclude shortly a cooperation agreement in electronic post, a system of electronic distribution that the Canadian posts company has devised for transactions and telecommunications.
The decision was made at meetings held in Ottawa between Moroccan secretary of State in charge of posts and information technologies, Larbi Ajjoul, and Canadian minister of public works and government services, Alfonso Gagliano, and general manager of Canadian posts company, Andre oullet.
Ajjoul examined with Canadian officials the question of electronic post in the prospect of applying this system, which is protected by an improved coding technology, to money transfers made by Moroccans settled in Canada.
The two sides agreed to launch the feasibility study of the project before meeting in Rabat to conclude an agreement, which is expected to include other aspects of cooperation.
The Moroccan official, who paid last week a visit to Canada, also met officials of two Canadian leader groups in the field of telecommunications, Nortel and Newbridge Networks. He also attended a seminar on "Africa and the Middle East."
