International human rights body wants to hold congress in Morocco
Regional, Culture, 5/20/2000

The international center for the rehabilitation of torture victims on Thursday voiced wish to hold its coming world congress in Morocco.

The wish was voiced by Ms. Christina Papadopoulou, who is leading a delegation from the center currently visiting Morocco, during talks with Moroccan human rights minister, Mohamed Aujjar.

Ms. Papadopoulou is in charge of the promotion of torture victims rehabilitation centers in the Middle-East and Africa.

Talks with Aujjar focused on Morocco's implementation of the international convention against torture and on the juridical guarantees offered by Morocco for the protection of victims.

Morocco's experience in clearing the issue of missing persons and arbitrary detention were also on the agenda.

Aujjar renewed Morocco's commitment for the protection and promotion of human rights and for the implementation of the international anti-torture convention.
