Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 5/19/2000

Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives (lower house) Abdelouahed Radi, met in Rabat Wednesday a delegation of the association of Palestinian working women, currently on a visit to Morocco to inquire about the experience of Moroccan women in local affairs management ahead of local Palestinian elections.

Radi said the Moroccan government is granting keen interest to all women-related issues and is undertaking moves to improve women's situation, raise literacy rate among women and encourage them to participate in the country's political life.

He underlined the importance given to women within regional and international parliamentary institutions where several mechanisms were set up to promote their conditions. Such mechanisms, he said, should be consolidated to allow women contribute to the development process.

The delegation members, who expressed satisfaction at Morocco's support to the Palestinian cause, surveyed the Palestinian women's struggle for the establishment of an Independent State and building of national institutions.

The Palestinian delegation that started Tuesday a work visit to Morocco also met speaker of the Chamber of Advisors (upper house) Mohamed Jalal Essaid.
