Prime minister receives manager of India's Oberoi group
Morocco-India, Business, 5/19/2000

Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi met in Rabat Thursday president of the Indian group "Oberoi."

The two men reviewed the enforcement of the $ 100 million accord concluded between Morocco and the Indian group.

A statement of Youssoufi's office says OBEROI president also informed the prime minister that his group has signed with Morocco's holding "ONA" a cooperation agreement creating a joint commission to carry out the agreement projects.

Last February, the Indian hotel Chain Oberoi announced projects to build Hotels, including a 500-room luxury hotel in Casablanca, a tourism compound in Marrakesh with 250 rooms and a tourism compound in the southern city of Ouarzazate.

The group will also rehabilitate a casbah (castle) in Ouarzazate.

Youssoufi's visit to India last February was crowned with the signing of a package of agreements in the sectors of maritime transport, mining and energy and audiovisual and information technologies. A Moroccan-Indian business council was also set up during the visit.

India is Morocco's third client and 30th supplier. Morocco recorded in 1997 its best external trade surplus with India ($ 332 million).

Phosphates and byproducts dominate Morocco's exports to India.
