Arab League calls for establishing an international court to try Israeli war criminals
Regional-Israel, Politics, 5/19/2000

The secretary general of the Arab League Ismat Abdul Miguid has announced that the Arab League council will call for establishing an international criminal court to be specialized in trying Israeli war criminals for their crimes against the Palestinian people and the killing of Palestinians in recent confrontations in the Palestinian areas on the 52nd anniversary of the Usurpation of Palestine ( al-Nakba).

In a press conference he held in conclusion of the special meeting of the Arab League council, Abdul Miguid stressed that the Arab League council has unanimously decided to consider what was carried out by the Israeli occupation as war crimes.

He explained that the Arab League council called on the UN and members at the UN security council to force Israel to pay compensations for the Palestinian people for the human and material losses resulting from the Israeli aggressions against it.

The Arab League chief held Israel responsible for all escalation of events and the obstruction of the peace process and halting the ME peace.

The Arab League council which was held at the level of the representatives said that the Israeli government builds more colonies in the occupied Palestinian territories and tries to create a "fait accomplait" in Jerusalem are a defiance to international legitimacy resolutions. A matter which constitutes a real threat to the peace process as a whole.

The Arab League council reiterated previous decisions taken in regard of the cause of Palestine especially in condemning the perpetuated occupation, continued detention of the Palestinian citizens, confiscation of Palestinian lands and establishment more settlements. The council stressed that all these Israeli practices makes it imperative from the International community, especially the US, the European Union and international funds not to give any economic or financial aids to Israel in order not to be used by Israel in implementing its settlement projects.
