Palestine-Israel, Politics, 5/18/2000

The Israeli deputy foreign minister Nawaf Masalha stated that "the Palestinian - Israeli negotiations are taking place on many channels and that all the subjects are under examination including Jerusalem and the Palestinian refugees."

He said Israeli prime minister knows that any concession concerning the two issues needs the support of 61 parliamentary members to gain the Palestinian confidence saying that not ratifying the two drafts will complicate the situation at which time the Palestinian delegation will find the way is locked and accordingly they will stop the negotiations.

Meantime, Two high raking Palestinian officials criticized the consent of the Israeli Knesset in voting on a draft resolution aiming at frustrating any settlement concerning Jerusalem and the refugees issues. Nabeel Abdu Rodina, the advisor of the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat said that this decision harms the peace process and the current negotiations as well as creating negative atmospheres that harm the peace processes. While Nabil Shaath, the Palestinian minister of planning and international cooperation asserted that "this draft proves that Israel has neither intention for peace nor returning the rights back to its owners."
