Egypt keen on stemming Eritrea- Ethiopia crisis
Egypt-Algeria, Politics, 5/15/2000
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Saturday received a message from his Algerian counterpart Abdul Aziz Bouteflika on the explosive situation between Asmara and Addis Ababa. Bouteflika doubles as the current President of the Organization of African Unity (OAU).
Foreign Minister Amr Moussa, in statements made on Saturday, voiced Egypt's deep concern over the resumption of military operations between Asmara and Addis Ababa. He called on the two neighboring countries to speedily and promptly put the relevant OAU initiative on establishing peace between them into effect.
Moussa also reiterated Egypt's support to Bouteflika, highlighting the necessity of stemming the hostilities between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Egypt's top diplomat attributed the stumbling of peace efforts over the last two years to the exchange of accusations between Asmara and Addis Ababa.
