Moroccan premier calls for genuine partnership to reduce social gap
Regional, Politics, 5/13/2000
Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi said that the gap between developing and developed countries could be reduced through a real partnership based on exchange of experience for an effective management of their human resources.
In an address, read out by Moroccan minister in charge of human rights, Mohammed Aujjar, on behalf of Moroccan premier, at the opening of the governing board meeting of the London-based International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) held in Rabat this May 12-14, Youssoufi said the problem of demography has created two worlds, a rich world whose population knows a decline in demographic growth and a poor world threatened by demographic explosion.
The Moroccan official added that Morocco has adopted several development plans to improve the population living standards, citing in particular reproductive health, family planning, mother and infant health, promotion of women conditions and fight against illiteracy.
Princess Lalla Fatima Zohra, who is chairing the Rabat meeting, said that the meeting will look into future programs and strategies in matters of population and reproductive health.
Representatives of over 40 countries and the IPPF president, Angela Gaumez, are attending the meeting.
