Syrian parliament approves state budget for the year 2000

The Syrian people's Assembly (PA) on Wednesday held a meeting, chaired by its deputy speaker Abdullah Mouselli during which the state budget for the year 2000 was approved.
The session was attended by the Prime Minister Muhammad Mustafa Miro and the two deputies for the prime minister.
The PA members approved each article of the draft budget to become a law.
The credits of the state's general budget for the year 2000 amounted to 275.4 billion Syrian pounds with an increase of 7.87 percent of last fiscal year.
In a speech he delivered commenting on the budget, the prime minister said " Debate made by the PA members were in fact an embodiment of the nation's basic issues of interest to all citizens and a treatment of a number of problems pertaining to the march of comprehensive development the country is witnessing under the leadership of President Hafez al-Assad."
He added that the "Draft budget involved different elements backing the country's production operations, and the sound financial vision means the ability of making a balanced management between the state revenues and required expenditures with a view toward attaining certain annual objectives compatible with the incessant orientation of all-out development."
He added " the future of our home is captive to discovering ways and methods that make the country's aspiration for modernization and progress closely connected with modernizing every sector and with the development of mentality steering all establishments and companies."
