Europe could get solar energy from north Africa, expert
Regional, Science, 5/10/2000
Europe could ensure its energy supply thanks to solar energy from south Europe and north Africa, said a German expert.
Professor Michael Duren from Hamburg (northern Germany) said that a large potential of energy exists in the Sahara which could meet all of Europe's needs at a competitive cost.
The expert was quoted by a German newspaper as saying that the solar energy is bound to conquer the European market in the years to come. The energy, collected by solar panels, will be transferred to Europe by high-tension cables, according to the newspaper.
