Morocco, Algeria call for inter-arab reconciliation
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 5/10/2000
Morocco and Algeria on Tuesday called for a full Arab reconciliation.
In a release circulated at the end of a visit by speaker of the Algerian senate, Bashir Boumaaza to Morocco, the Moroccan Chamber of Advisors (upper house of parliament) and the Algerian nation council (senate) stressed the need to carry on efforts to ensure reconciliation among Arab states and end inter-Arab disputes.
Morocco and Algeria also renewed their call for a total lift of the embargo imposed on Libya and the sanctions befalling Iraq.
The two sides, who decried the Israeli aggressions against Lebanon, renewed backing to a fair, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle-East in accordance with the international law and through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.
They also voiced backing to Syria regarding its legitimate rights and sovereignty over the Golan Heights and to Lebanon regarding its southern parts.
