Moroccan culture minister winds up visit to Nouakchott
Mauritania-Morocco, Politics, 5/9/2000
Moroccan minister of cultural affairs, Mohamed Achaari, on Sunday wound up a visit to Nouakchott where he chaired the opening of Moroccan cultural days.
Achaari was received by Mauritanian president Mouaouya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya and held talks with several Mauritanian officials.
The cultural days are a symbol of the firm historic and human ties binding Morocco and Mauritania and reflect the neighborliness relations between the two states, said Achaari at the opening session of the cultural days.
The Moroccan official underscored the shared rich cultural heritage and stressed the need to strengthen cultural dialogue between the two Maghreban states to preserve Maghreban identity and heritage in the face of globalization.
Morocco and Mauritania are member of the Arab Maghreb Union along with Algeria, Libya and Tunisia.
The cultural event, to last up to May 11, features a book exhibition, music shows, plays, and movies besides lectures on the Moroccan contemporary culture and the Hassanian literature as a common style shared by the two states.
