Garang, in Cairo, discusses coordination between initiatives to solve southern Sudan's problems
Sudan, Politics, 5/9/2000

John Garang, chief of the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement arrived in Cairo on Monday evening

Mansour Khaled, the former Sudanese foreign minister and advisor to Garang said in press statements yesterday that Garang will hold discussions with officials in Egypt concerning issues related to the political and military situation in Sudan and the coordination between initiatives to solve the crisis.

Ata Allah Bashir, the executive manager of IGAD organization (the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development), said days ago that the IGAD countries do not want to merge its initiative with the Libyan- Egyptian initiative, yet he said they do not object to any initiative concerning the Sudanese affair.
